  20. Kristina,

The way your question is worded I'm not understanding what kind of relationship you're interested in researching.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Jessica,

I think your question is a good one. You might also consider asking what kinds of research or studies deal with this question.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Kristina,

Your question is directed at us, your readers, how might you rephrase it to be a research question?

On what basis do detractors argue that children raised by lesbian couples will be at some sort of disadvantage in comparison with children raised by heterosexual couples? What are the problems with this position?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Gerald,

You might want to broaden your question a little bit: What identity do teenagers choose when they put on certain kinds of clothes? What statements do fashion choices make about the person wearing them? Should parents restrict what their teenagers choose to wear?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Felishia,

I think these are good research questions:

Are our children more mentally advanced today than 20 years ago.
    5. Are children more emotionally advanced today than they were 20 yrs ago.

The question concerning environment and physical development is also a good one.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Tyler,

You might consider also a more specific research direction, such as looking into the accessibility and influence of particular large-scale programs, such as MATS, Michigan Academic Talent Search.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Shawn,

I don't think we can "make" children do anything. Perhaps you might investigate why our country doesn't place a higher value on education, a search which might lead you to look at the value other countries place on providing quality education for their children.

  27. Ron,

I'm thinking for your research project you might want to move away from this topic.

Are there any subjects you could research? You should try to make your research an activity that is truly useful to you in some way.

If I had the chance to research something for a class, for example, I would spend some time reading about the challenges adolescent girls face, since I have a teenage daughter. This kind of research would directly benefit me in my home life.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Mike,

I like your questions. I'm not sure, though, about the word "should" in your first question.

You might want to look for reviews of Robert Bly's books. This would be a related subject. You might also want to look at Sam Keen's book, or reviews of the book, called Fire in the Belly. Both these books are about the changing roles of men in our society.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Rachel,

This might be your best question:

Is it harder for children of different ehtnicities to bond parents of other ethnicities

  35. essay #3 question; How many stores in genesee county have closed or moved to another location since the recession started?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Don,

This is a good opening question. I wonder, though, how you can research this in the online resources of the library. It seems you would have to go to the County records offices.

Perhaps your question might be phrased in terms of the recession's effects on business in Genesee County--and on the effects on Genesee County of so many businesses closing.

  54. Sarah,

You might look under drug addiction in Thomson-Gale, and then on the upper right-hand side, where it says "Document" or "Types of Document" look for personal narratives.

I believe you might find information for the daughters of the actress Joan Crawford. One of them wrote a book called "Mommy Dearest."

Also, the daughter of Debbie Reynolds and Eddy Fisher. She was a star in the movie "Star Wars."

I believe the addictions there were to alcohol.

Liza Minelli, Judy Garland's daughter, might have written about her childhood and her mother, who was addicted to alcohol and a number of other substances.

The Rolling Stones' Mick Jagger's children have had to contend with that as well, I'm sure. (also Keith Richards' children, if he has any)

Johnny Cash, Hank Williams . . . many, many children of musicians in every genre.

If the movie 8-Mile is truthful, Eminem probably did also.

We can ask other students to suggest celebrities as well.

    ReplyDelete
  55. from your instructor:

    Jama,

For your second question, you might look at states that make recycling mandatory. Perhaps California, since Californians are particularly conscious of their environment.

A sideline might be what people in this area do with their garbage--landfills, shipping it out to Canada, etc., and what effect these practices have on our environment.

    ReplyDelete
  56. from your instructor:

    Jama,

I thought of another sideline: how we discard waste from medical facilities.

the only thing I can see a single mom would have as an advantage than a married couple would be you make all the decisions with no interferance with aspouse.Having a spouse does sometimes have its advantages too.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Danecia and Latasha,

I'm not sure what your research questions are. Danecia, What does "success rate" mean? Latasha: If you see a man beating a woman, should you help that woman? is not a research question. A research question might be: Where have community organizations and agencies joined together to prevent domestic violence from escalating (murder, etc.)? How have these efforts helped the victims, perpetrators and children involved?

    ReplyDelete
  75. Gerald,

How is it going finding information on your questions?

Have you checked the Popular Culture database in Thomson-Gale?

There might be the larger issue of hip-hop culture (which has spread around the globe) here.
